Flourishing Children, Healthy Communities, and a Stronger Nation: The U.S. Early Years Climate Action Plan

More than 33 million children across the country are aged eight and younger. They are already experiencing the impacts of climate disruption, such as the wildfire smoke and excessive heat that have driven children indoors, or the historic flooding that has damaged homes, child care programs, and health clinics. Intensifying climate change makes it more difficult to provide the nurturing places and experiences that help children grow into resilient, flourishing adults.

Capita and This is Planet Ed at the Aspen Institute have co-convened the Early Years Climate Action Task Force, which issued Flourishing Children, Healthy Communities, and a Stronger Nation: The U.S. Early Years Climate Action Plan on Thursday, October 12th.

This Plan includes actionable recommendations for every level of government, philanthropy, early childhood programs and systems, and researchers to improve child and family outcomes in a future marked increasingly by climate disruption.

This is an exclusive briefing on the action plan and opportunities for Ascend's Fellows and Ascend network partners to implement recommendations to support young children and their families in a changing climate. Please get in touch to register or for more information.

The briefing will feature insights and analysis from:

  • Alicia Mousseau, Vice President, Oglala Sioux Tribe; 2021 Ascend Fellow

  • Patricia Mendoza, parent of a young child, San Jose, CA

  • Leah Austin, Executive Director, National Black Child Development Institute
